Be Strong and Courageous

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
— Joshua 1:9

Have you ever stood at the threshold of something new—heart pounding, palms damp—not because you lacked ability, but because the weight of what’s next felt heavier than your strength?

That was Joshua.
Moses was gone. The wilderness behind him. The Jordan ahead. A nation depending on him. And God didn’t say, “Figure it out.”

He said:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed…”

Notice the triple command—spoken three times in this chapter (vv. 6, 9, 18)—because He knows fear is real.
Be strong — not in muscle, but in spirit
Be courageous — not because danger is absent, but because His presence is greater
Do not be frightened (chathal) — sudden terror
Do not be dismayed (shamem) — gradual discouragement

Both are addressed with one unshakable promise:

“For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Not sometimes. Not if.
Wherever. Every step. Every battle. Every unknown.

This isn’t motivational talk. It’s covenant assurance.
The same God who parted the Red Sea, fed Israel with manna, and spoke from the burning bush now says:

“I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5, echoing Deut 31:6,8).

And He doesn’t say “I will be with you if you succeed.”
He says: “I am with you—wherever you go.”
Not just in victory—but in uncertainty. Not only in clarity—but in confusion. Not when the path is clear—but especially when it’s not.

The clenched fist in the image speaks of resolve—not aggression, but determined trust. It’s the posture of someone who has heard the Word and chosen to stand.

In a world that equates courage with boldness, noise, or control—God redefines it:
→ Courage is not denying fear—but walking through it with Him.
→ Strength is not self-reliance—but surrender to His presence.
→ Peace is not absence of threat—but certainty of His nearness.

You don’t need to manufacture bravery.
You only need to remember:

The Lord your God is with you.
Not sometimes. Not if.
Wherever you go.

So today:
Breathe.
Let go of the need to control the outcome.
Step forward—not because the way is safe, but because the Guide is faithful.

Because the One who walked with Joshua walks with you too.
His presence is your peace.
His promise is your power.
His “with you” is your anchor.

You are not alone.
You are held.
You are sent—strong and courageous.
